Mowery considers herself a "sporting artist" and is best known for her thoroughbred horse racing scenes. The artist describes her painting technique as " impressionist, neo-pointillist ". She is a former member of the faculty at the Yale School of Drama. Mowery is a trustee of the National Art Museum of Sport and chairman of the American Academy of Equine Art.
