"Alphabet et Saucisson" by Alexander Calder, Lithograph on Rives, 1970

Abstract forms of the "alphabet" and "sausage" come together in this lithograph by American artist Alexander Calder from 1970. This arrangement of primary colors against stark white is typical of the abstract works done by Alexander Calder in his two-dimensional works. Known for his wire artwork, Calder (1898-1976) innovated the modern art world with his suspended moving sculptures, also known as mobiles. Throughout his career he also experimented with oil, watercolor, etching, gouache, serigraphy, jewelry, and building interiors. This lithograph on Rives paper is signed and numbered in pencil, edition 54/90, and is set in a white mat with gold bevel and a frame of gold wood.
