Six copperplate engravings - Phytanthoza Iconographia, Johann Wilhelm Weinmann, 1737-45
Set of 6 eighteen-century mezzotint engravings from Phytanthoza Iconographia..., Regensburg, 1737-1745, produced by German pharmacist and botanist Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741). The Iconographia was a massive undertaking, comprised of eight folio volumes, including over one- thousand hand-colored engravings, and was one of the earliest works produced using the mezzotint process. Many of the original illustrations upon which the prints are based were produced by Geog Dionysius Ehret (1708-1770), one of the foremost floral illustrators of the 18th century. Each print is archivally custom framed in a bleached white-gold Louis XVI frame, with hand-drawn lines on rag mat and museum glass.
