"Blessing the Candles" by Sandu Liberman, Signed Lithograph
A woman, hands held in prayer, blesses the Shabbas candles. She wears a red shawl, and looks out as if looking past the viewer into the distance. Meanwhile, the candles emit a bright light, creating florescent orbs around the flame. The shadows on her cheeks contrasts the bright illumination from the candles on the rest of her face. This portrayal of a Jewish woman is a common theme of Sandu Liberman, a Romanian-American artist. He was often commissioned by the Government of Israel to make portraits. This lithograph is signed and numbered in pencil, and offered in a black and gold wood frame with a white mat. Edition: 63/250.
