"Portrait I" by Corneille, Lithograph, 1982
"Portrait I" has all of the characteristics of a Corneille work: bright, bold colors, abstracted poses, and abandonment of traditional perspective. The woman wears an elaborate headpiece, her lips and nose showing through the pink hand in front of her face. Corneille was one of the founders of the CoBrA Art Group in 1948, an avant-garde movement named after the cities of its founding members: Copenhagen (Co), Brussels (Br), and Amsterdam (A). It included artists such as Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky, Constant, Asger Jorn, and Joseph Noiret. This lithograph is signed and numbered in pencil, edition: 300, AP 30. It is offered unframed.
